Games
My Weird Obsession With Mystery Games.
I've recently been on a kick of playing a bunch of playing a bunch of text-based mystery games on itch.io. They're incredibly fun for me, and make me very excited to figure everything in them out, and are usually simple enough that I can finish them with no or little need for hints (although i take copious amounts of notes to keep track of things)! I love them a lot. Here's a list of all the ones I've completed, I recommend literally all of them! You'll often see them shouting each other out as inspiration hahaha
- Type Help by William Rous – the queen the legend the moment, it's my favorite one, it's incredible and currently also available on Steam!
- The Roottrees are Dead by jjohnstongames – the OG, it's super fun to play, the aesthetics are strong, the gameplay is user-friendly, the mystery is both fun and simple and the game is currently also available on Steam in an improved form and with DLC!
- The Archives of Trevosa by jamwitch – a short but fun game originally made for Ludum Dare, it has a fun little reveal that managed to genuinely surprise me without feeling too cheap or too obvious! very fun for language nerds like me :D
- Intelligence by zerotrickpony – a sci-fi take on this genre with a bunch of very unique gameplay quirks that can make this a delightful experience to break up the monotony if you're getting bored of the same mechanics! it has a fun little story that takes some twists and turns! I hugely recommend it! this one is also available to get on Steam!
- What Happened to the Crew? by bushmonkey – a sci-fi flavored take on the Type Help gameplay with its own interesting quirks on the gameplay! it has some slightly obtuse mechanics (please for the love of god don't use the & in the ID when using the 'name' command it took me like 5 minutes to realize) but it's a delightful play regardless! if you get stuck (and you will probably get stuck - thanks, wordle) just scroll down and there are sper helpful people in the comments!
I am also currently in the middle (or last third?) of getting through bushmonkey's other project, The Red Pearls of Borneo which is in my opinion even better! Very exciting, there is an intricate web of personal stories and relationships, the UI is interestingly made and nice to look at and the historical details are deeply appreciated by me, a history nerd! I absolutely recommend it!
